Bus Stop Chronicles is a multimedia project with special interest in photography, video & sound. It explores the use of public spaces in African cities, taking Lagos city as a case study through its bus stops (formal & informal). Highlighting strategies for negotiating and accessing spaces while engaging the architecture. I developed an interest in the beauty and textures within the forms, the entrances, exits and windows. These elements look so simple, yet sophisticated in the context. Also, of note is the overall chaotic appearance amidst the aesthetics. In the course of this project, my interest grew from just the textural details and forms I see on the surface, to the humans within these spaces and structures because architecture isn’t just about the building, but also the people. This is a documentation of architectures & communities on the verge of extinction in Lagos Nigeria, giving way to the contemporary style buildings hidden behind tall fences and gates.
